Introduction

Writing for the social sciences was a class that provided useful information and improved my social skills and writing. However, this class was not what I expected it to be like. I did not expect to learn about cultures, subcultures, and ethnographies. Overall, I think these topics were very useful and will definitely help me with any writing classes I take in the future.

Before this course, I was not much of a researcher. I tend to be shy, and even when I am curious, I do not ask questions. For this class, I had to write a mini ethnography, which consisted of an interview regarding the topic of my ethnography. This event allowed me to become more open minded, and my shyness immediately went away once I entered the interview site. This made me realize that it is okay to ask questions. I am glad I was able to conduct these interviews because they helped me as a researcher, a writer, and simply a person.

As a writer, I have many habits and weaknesses. For example, I tend to leave assignments for last minute. This was my main weakness which truly brought me down. While taking writing for the social sciences, I came to realize that leaving assignments for last minute was going to set me back in the class. Throughout the semester, I started to improve in this issue because the class required a few mini assignments throughout the week. These mini assignments were very helpful and relevant to the class. They helped better my understanding the social science, culture, and the elements that make up one’s culture. However, when it comes to strengths, I am very confident in my writing. Although there is always room for improvement, I believe that I am a good writer, especially when it comes to the process. I am very organized and create outstanding outlines for all my major assignments. This helped me in this course because we had four lengthy essays.
